HISTORY

At BARWIS, we have a deep desire to utilize our resources and relationships to help those in need in the most practical, tangible ways possible. The Athletic Angels Foundation was born from this desire, started years ago by Mike Barwis in his days as a collegiate coach when he would develop relationships with impoverished kids who lived near the stadium.

He would connect them with his athletes, ensure they received gifts and food during the holiday season, and provide ways for them to experience joy and mentorship with high-profile role models. Today, Athletic Angels not only continues these traditions but also has ongoing relationships with foster-care facilities, hosts weekly training sessions and exciting large-scale events for youth, sponsors sport-training camps, and is working with the federal government to expand nationally to create even more opportunities to change the lives of youth in need.

OUR PARTNERS

Through Athletic Angels, underprivileged and at risk youth are provided with free weekly performance training and mentoring at BARWIS Performance Centers, creating an active and engaging play and learning experience to promote literacy physically, emotionally, cognitively, and socially while combating the effects of neglect and/or abuse in the children’s past.

Methodist Children’s Home Society helps hundreds of abused and neglected children each year by providing safe havens, creating forever families, and raising responsible young men.

The Hibiscus Children’s Center maintains a safe shelter for children who are abused, abandoned and neglected by providing prevention, early intervention, and advocacy in quality residential, assessment and recovery programs.

The Boys & Girls Club of St. Lucie County has 19 clubs throughout the county where they develop youth and provide them with a safe and fun learning environment. Their goal is to provide an opportunity for success through helping children that need it most reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
